Spread refers to the difference between ask and bid price which lies in pips. It can be easily defined as commission. Almost all brokers take commission from their traders. Some brokers take low spread and some take high spread from their traders. But to every trader low spread broker gets more priority. As a low spread broker I have selected Trade12 broker. From which I have the low spread from 0.1 which increases my trading profit.

Re: Forex spread
The spread is the difference between the buy price and the ask price. Two prices are given for a currency pair. The spread signifies the variance among what the market maker gives to buy from a trader, and what the market maker takes to sell to a trader. Having a low spread broker is a blessing. I can say I am blessed for having AAFX as my broker. It gives me 1pip fixed spread rate major pairs.
